The Awards
RULES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Each Sociate will put forth nominations for each award category by the final day in January. Those nominations will be compiled and refined if necessary by at least 2 Nomination Coordinators into the Official Nominees, released on the first Friday of February. The Awards will annually take place on the last Saturday of February. Voting takes place anytime within those three weeks but Sociates must have their votes submitted by midnight two nights before the Dillies (Thursday 11:59 PM). Results will be broadcast that Saturday night. Please consult our Official Timeline below for more information
Within the Dilly Film Selection Period, films nominated must be released between the February 1st of the former year and the January 31st of the latter. If unsure of a film’s release date (because of international releases or what have you), err on the side of inclusion or consult us. Every unspecified category must be a feature length film (at least 60 minutes). Sociates do not need to vote in every category. It is highly recommended that Sociates watch all the films within a category before voting but it is not required.
The Society wants to make it clear that the term “best” can mean a wide variety of things from most inventive, most notable, most competent, technically proficient, and so on and so forth. It is no revelation to say that the world is full of great films and these awards exist exactly to highlight and give recognition (even on a small scale) to those films. Not receiving an award does not diminish that film’s worth in any way.
As a Sociate, you are expected firstly to Nominate and Vote on films. You are also welcome to suggest changes to the Society and have an active input in the progression of the Awards or even be part of the Ceremony.
See more information in our bylaws.
